Product details
The author and most significant medical historian of his time, Karl Sudhoff (1853 - 1938), presents German incunabula in the field of medicine in this volume. Incunabula, or cradle prints, refer to books and single-sheet prints that were printed with movable type between the completion of the Gutenberg Bible in 1454 and December 31, 1500. Initially, cradle prints were characterized by the format, typography, and illustration reminiscent of medieval manuscripts, which evolved into modern book printing with the technical and economic developments that began in the 16th century. Their production was carried out by named printers who also distributed them. Incunabula are testimonies to the beginning of the technically supported dissemination of written material in Europe and today represent valuable cultural heritage. Illustrated with 40 black-and-white images.
