In the northeast of Germany, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, lies the Mecklenburg Lake District, the largest contiguous lake area in the country. Particularly interesting for paddlers is the so-called Kleinseenplatte, with its many small and larger lakes interconnected by canals and streams, offering a variety of circular routes. Some of the tours take place in Müritz National Park or pass through nature or landscape conservation areas. The fauna and flora here exhibit an astonishing diversity of species, which may be due to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern being the least populated federal state in Germany. Less known but equally charming is the Peene, also referred to as the Amazon of the North, along with other rivers like the Warnow, Tollense, and Recknitz. Paddlers should not expect any technical difficulties. The author has compiled eleven multi-day tours, which can be divided into a total of 55 day trips. Many of the routes can be linked together or varied as desired. From a leisurely day trip to weekend excursions and longer canoe vacations, every paddler can find something to suit their needs.
