Poetry accompanied him throughout his life, and the diversity of themes and forms in his lyric works is truly universal. In these poems, he expressed his feelings and confessions, presented his worldview, and reacted polemically or amicably to current events and contemporaries. This volume contains all of Goethe's poems from 1756 to 1799. It offers, for the first time in a complete edition, Goethe's own collections as well as those poems that he either did not include or included only a long time after their creation. Together with the poems from 1800-1832, this edition encompasses the poet's entire lyrical work, with the exception of the West-Eastern Divan in all its versions, arranged in chronological order of the first prints and according to Goethe's own collections, making it as authentic as possible.
