"We owe a debt of gratitude for all the effort and care that can outlast us, and it is for the collection of fairy tales," Jacob Grimm reflected in 1860 about his deceased brother. The Grimms owe their fame to the fairy tales - the most published, widely distributed, and best-known German-language book of all time. In their quest for genuine and ancient folk tales, they created something entirely different: a completely new literary genre, the Grimms' storybook, with its canon-forming repertoire and its distinctive, exemplary tone. This edition offers, based on the central edition from 1837, all of the Grimms' fairy tales and their corresponding original annotations. Sources, motifs, and references of this work are explored through a commentary.
