Italian longing and hunter's romance, moonlit bliss and inner conversations, guitar sounds and enchanted castle ruins, rustling trees and confusing dreams - Ludwig Tieck's poems laid the foundation for the poetry of German Romanticism. In them, all those themes and motifs that we still associate with Romanticism today are addressed. The reading of Tieck's poems, whose impact was extraordinary in their time, confirms Heinrich Heine's original judgment that Tieck was "the true son" of Apollo - at once "intoxicated by lyrical pleasure and critical cruelty like the Delphic god." Volume 7 of the new Tieck edition brings together all of Tieck's poems for the first time and presents them with a comprehensive commentary.
