In April, the Mathematical-Physical Salon in Dresden will reopen its doors after six years of renovation and restoration work, featuring a new collection concept. Augustus the Strong established the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments in 1728 as an independent museum in the Zwinger to quench the thirst for knowledge and to satisfy the princely need for representation. To this day, the salon houses numerous treasures from the world-famous collection of historical clocks and scientific instruments. This includes terrestrial and celestial globes, fascinating optical, astronomical, and geodetic devices, as well as historical tools for calculation, drawing, and measuring.
