The New Palace in the Sanssouci Park served Frederick the Great as a place of representation, in stark contrast to the intimate Sanssouci Palace. Inside, magnificent banquet halls, grand galleries, and princely furnished apartments still captivate visitors today, along with the baroque Sanssouci Palace Theater located in the south wing. The New Palace is the last castle that Frederick the Great had built in his park. It was meant to demonstrate the unbroken capabilities of the Prussian state after the years of hardship during the Seven Years' War from 1756 to 1763. Visitors can now admire the recently restored Lower Prince's Quarter during their tour of the palace, which showcases one of the most precious interiors in Europe. The splendid Grotto Hall has also been re-integrated after extensive renovation work, revealing its mysterious glitter and sparkle.
