In 2017, the 100th birthday of director and set designer Wieland Wagner, a grandson of Richard Wagner, is celebrated. On this occasion, a comprehensive visual and textual documentation of his artistic work is published. The significant era of "New Bayreuth," which was largely shaped by Wieland Wagner, began with the revival of the Bayreuth Festival in 1951. With his revolutionary Wagner productions and especially his visionary visual concepts, he created a new style inspired by ancient Greek tragedy that gained international recognition. Beyond Bayreuth, he also made his mark with his reinterpretations of Verdi's "Aida" and "Otello," Strauss's "Elektra" and "Salome," Berg's "Lulu" and "Wozzeck," Bizet's "Carmen," as well as "Antigonae" and the Easter play.
