Deutschland. Ein Wintermärchen
German, Heinrich Heine, 2013Product details
In the autumn of 1843, Heinrich Heine travels from Paris to Hamburg. Dissatisfied with the political conditions in his homeland and his personal situation as a German and a Jew, he writes an indictment against censorship, militarism, and restoration, which is published in 1844 by Hoffmann & Campe. Already in the same year, "Germany. A Winter's Tale" is banned and confiscated in Prussia - but the waves stirred up were even greater. Thomas Rosenlöcher notes in his highly praised afterword that Heine's "Winter's Tale" still holds significance today, stating: "Heine's poem knows more than Heine could have imagined.".
