Once upon a time, there was a period when even in the land of a thousand mountains, railway enthusiasts could still enjoy a vividly colorful and diverse world of the Federal Railways: diesel locomotives or newly built electric locomotives in red, green, blue, beige, or light gray-orange pulled their trains through the magnificent landscape, locomotives from the V 60 family trundled around with short transfer freight trains, and rail buses, along with occasional large TEE multiple units, added further splashes of color. This book pays a small tribute to all of them, as all of this is now a thing of the past; in 1994, the Federal Railways became Deutsche Bahn AG, and the image of the railway has fundamentally changed since then.
