The great stupa, known as "Jarungkhasor" by the Tibetans, stands in the midst of the Kathmandu Valley. All four schools of Tibetan Buddhism hold the stupa in equal reverence. The story of the great stupa is a legendary Tibetan tale that speaks of incarnation and deep devotion, of decline and renewal. The text is a Terma scripture: narrated by Padmasambhava to his students in the 8th century and hidden by his Dakini consort Yeshe Tsogyal, it was later rediscovered and deciphered.
