This edition revives a tradition of the Suhrkamp Verlag that was interrupted but continued with the publication of Schleiermacher's pedagogy last year. The dialectic is Schleiermacher's philosophical masterpiece—or would have been, had he had the time to develop it. The richly introduced two-volume study seeks to combine critical standards with readability and reproduces the handwritten base text from 1814, as well as the compilations of lecture notes from the important course of 1822, edited by Rudolf Odebrecht in 1942, which are no longer available on the book market, along with handwritten additions from 1828.
