Information about the Author
Naoki Urasawa's career as a manga artist spans over twenty years and has firmly established him as one of Japan's true manga masters. Born in 1960 in Tokyo, Urasawa made his debut in 1983 with BETA! and has since not ceased his impressive output. Well-versed in a variety of genres, Urasawa's work encompasses a wide range of themes, including a romantic comedy (Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl), a gripping human drama about a former mercenary (Pineapple ARMY; the story of Kazuya Kudo), a captivating psychological thriller (Monster), a sci-fi adventure manga (20th Century Boys), and a modern reinterpretation of the works of the God of Manga, Osamu Tezuka (Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka; co-authored with Takashi Nagasaki, supervised by Macoto Tezka, and in collaboration with Tezuka Productions). Many of his books have spawned popular animated adaptations.
