While power naps and polyphasic sleep aim to optimize conventional nighttime rest, and lucid dreaming techniques attempt to colonize sleep as a resource for enhancing physical and mental performance, fatigue remains that intermediate state which is neither wakefulness nor indirectly promotes wakefulness; it is the true scandal. The awareness of its abundance has withered under the pressure of optimization, efficiency, and performance.
