Digital drawings fundamentally underpin the multifaceted work of Swiss artist Yves Netzhammer from the very beginning: lines drawn in an empty, weightless space represent both a thinking in figures and figures of thought – bizarre, comical, uncanny. Lines and surfaces allow beings to emerge from objects, figures become recognizable only through continuous transformations, the living turns into apparatuses, and heads mutate into spaces, with parallel worlds lined up like pearls on wires. Ostensibly devoid of traces of individual craftsmanship, the computer-generated drawings reveal the contradictions of contemporary, media-subverted authorship and subjectivity. Netzhammer's equally sophisticated and precise visual rhetoric opens up a subtle game that allows the viewer every interpretation while simultaneously refuting it. This results in ambiguous images.
