Christian themes have been a recurring element in the work of Jean-Luc Nancy for some time. At times, he is guided by the papal blessing "Urbi et Orbi" in a text (in "The Creation of the World or Globalization"), at other times, there is a chapter on the incarnation (in "Corpus"), and he repeatedly returns to the concept of "creation." Each time, he gives the religious question an eminently political twist. "La déclosion" (Unclosing, Opening), the original French title of this work published in 2005, gathers essays on the "deconstruction of Christianity." On one hand, Christianity becomes the subject of deconstruction: Nancy examines it by shifting, distorting, or complicating it. On the other hand, Nancy observes a (auto-)deconstructive movement at the very core of Christianity itself, which recurs in its various manifestations.
