Product details
Pierre Guyotat represents a literary extreme position for which there is no precedent. His second major narrative work, "Eden, Eden, Eden," was created in 1970 and was immediately banned as pornographic upon its release. Despite the support of prominent intellectuals for the book, the ban was only lifted in 1981 under Mitterrand. In literally a single sentence, a desolate, apocalyptic war landscape unfolds, depicting an endless civil war devoid of any morality and thus also devoid of evil. Every action is submerged in the intertwining of micro-narratives, where women, children, animals, men, young people, the elderly, soldiers, and prostitutes are subjected to multiple obscenities, rapes, and murders. All of this finds its literary form in a triumphant language that does not distinguish between violence and lust, beauty and cruelty, human and animal.
