The Dictionary of German as a Foreign Language is aimed at everyone who learns and teaches German as a foreign language. Non-native speakers have different reference needs than native speakers: the dictionary has been specifically developed to meet the needs of non-native speakers. Everyday communication can be conducted with approximately 15,000 to 20,000 words; accordingly, the dictionary contains about 19,000 entries. Learners receive information about the part of the vocabulary that they truly need. This vocabulary is thoroughly analyzed based on the latest linguistic findings: the "small" words, which play such a significant role in mastering a foreign language and are so difficult to learn, are given considerable attention: conjunctions, prepositions, modal particles, and degree particles are all included.
