Product details

A novel-like biography. Rudolf is born in 1942, amidst the chaos of war, to Elsa and Oskar. After Rudolf's birth, the family goes underground to Vichy France, to Sète. There, they hide and wait for the downfall of the Third Reich. After the capitulation of Hitler's Germany, the family initially moves to Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl. The multi-generational family experiences an identity crisis. Rudolf's grandmother, Bóbel, remains the only steadfast figure in tradition and religion. In 1948, the family moves back from Eichstetten to Freiburg im Breisgau. Bóbel dedicates herself fully to Rudolf's development. Rudolf also cannot detach himself from his grandmother. It becomes evident that the thoughtful and tolerant cosmopolitan Bóbel has equipped her grandson Rudolf with enough tools to connect with people of multiple identities through encounters and gentle conversations.
