The Egyptian tortoise, Testudo kleinmanni Lortet, 1883, is the smallest of the Mediterranean Testudo species and the second smallest tortoise species in the world today. It is adapted to extreme living conditions in a semi-desert climate in its native North Africa and Israel. Despite all conservation measures and preservation projects, the Egyptian tortoise is critically endangered. Although keeping them in captivity is considered somewhat challenging, they are gaining popularity among terrarium enthusiasts worldwide. Relevant literature has previously been scarce and difficult to find for interested parties. This is where the present book by Franziska Biedenweg and biologist Ricarda Schramm comes to the rescue, providing comprehensive and detailed information about the fascinating little beauty, Testudo kleinmanni, for the first time in this extent.
