Product details

The first story about the culture and everyday life of the Sinti in Germany from the 1920s to the turn of the millennium. Historian Heiko Haumann describes in "The Zilli Reichmann Files" the living environments and culture of the Sinti through numerous personal accounts. Zilli Reichmann, who was born in 1924 and survived Auschwitz, also shared her memories with him. Using her biography as an example, he depicts the daily life of the Sinti and family life, as well as the pervasive discrimination, police registration since 1900, and the persecution of the Sinti during the National Socialist regime. This also creates a comprehensive picture of the conditions and relationships in the gypsy camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. However, Heiko Haumann also discusses the lingering prejudices after 1945, the long struggle for recognition as victims of National Socialism, and the process of settling down.
