"The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" is considered the main work of the British economist John Maynard Keynes. The work was published in 1936 and challenged the classical economic theory that had dominated until then. Keynes particularly opposed the assumption that a free market would inevitably lead to a macroeconomic equilibrium, which would also achieve full employment, and criticized the prevailing laissez-faire policies of the time. Instead, he advocated for an active government economic policy. This work marked the beginning of the Keynesian revolution in economics. The magnum opus of the great economist is now available in a complete new translation, presenting Keynes' partly revolutionary ideas and conclusions, which appear highly relevant in light of the economic turbulence and crises of the new millennium.
