A theater of the First World War is the mountain front between Austria and Italy. This war, which claimed countless lives, also left its marks in the mountains. For the research of this book, author Hans-Joachim Löwer and photographer Udo Bernhart climbed up to old cannons, trudged through mine tunnels, and discovered weapons and body parts that had thawed out of glaciers. Historical photographic material and current images juxtapose the past with the present.
