The ammonite species of the southern German Lias, collected from the abundance of special literature, are presented in clear identification tables in systematic order. In addition to the more than 340 species of the first edition, another 40 species have been added in the new edition. All species are characterized by comparative description as well as presentation of cross section, sculpture and shell dimensions. The majority of the ammonites are reproduced on large format photographic plates in the form of type specimens. A generally understandable introduction serves above all the less experienced reader and conveys the state of knowledge about way of life and construction of the ammonites as well as taxonomy, nomenclature and stratigraphy of the Lias.
