With "The Worship," Jean-Luc Nancy presents the second volume of a deconstruction of Christianity. While the first volume aimed to reveal the self-deconstructive nature of Christianity, the essays gathered here explore the gesture of worship, which lies at the heart of Christianity yet runs counter to it by adding an excess to its supposedly final meaning and apparent closure. In this work, Jean-Luc Nancy does not focus so much on Christianity or its self-deconstruction itself, but rather on the structure underlying this unsettling gesture of worship, which he approaches in all its facets, in art, literature, Christianity, and ultimately, above all, in the work of Sigmund Freud.
