Product details
Inspired by the biblical Samson from the Book of Judges in the Old Testament, Vladimir Jabotinsky begins his literary portrait years later in 1919 in Palestine and publishes it for the first time in 1926 in Paris: from the four biblical chapters emerges a four-hundred-page work in the style of the great novels of the 19th century. Set in an ancient environment, the narrative unfolds within the tension of political alliances, centering around Samson—strong, almost invincible, and intelligent—as the struggle for dominance in the land develops among the three groups in Canaan: the Philistines, the Israelites, and the tribe of Dan. The conflict is fought with unequal weapons, as the educated and superior Philistines, while possessing less physical strength, have much more intellectual knowledge, more refined manners, and access to iron. Samson's biblical miracles are portrayed in a realistic manner.
