Giovanni Boccaccio set the stage and raised the bar very high. Inspired by his Decameron, about three dozen of his compatriots attempted to follow in his stylistic and thematic footsteps over the next 200 years, starting from the mid-14th century. In their novellas and stories, they also reflected unfiltered outrageous and spicy events from their daily lives, which today are among the most entertaining in the genre. Our selection presents twenty of the lesser-known successors and focuses on the typical and spicy elements from this era between Boccaccio and Aretino. The variations unearthed here demonstrate what wicked love is capable of. The authors do not shy away from the famous fig leaf, and they certainly do not hold back in their expressions. Amusing mix-ups and intricate love intrigues abound.
