The Acts of the Apostles is the second part of the Lukan work and should be read with the same expectations that the prologue (Luke 1:1-4) evokes: Here, an educated member of a contemporary movement writes for an equally educated and interested audience. It concerns the history of God with Israel, which has entered a critical phase with Jesus of Nazareth, as well as the resulting Jesus movement and its expansion. The content is meant to resonate with readers on an existential level, just as it did with the first listeners of the reported missionary speeches. There is no comprehensive historiography in terms of time and space, but the author aims to go beyond mere hearsay and provide reliable information.
