Product details

One of the most famous German locomotives is the Reko-52, which is known even outside of Germany to almost every railway enthusiast. This machine traces its origins back to the legendary war locomotive of the Class 52 from World War II. With over 6,300 units produced, it is one of the most built steam locomotives in the world, used in numerous countries. The Deutsche Reichsbahn of the GDR significantly improved 200 examples of this former war locomotive through its reconstruction program, transforming them into more powerful and modern machines. The Reko locomotive series 5280 was created. This robust and popular machine proved itself until the end of scheduled steam locomotive operations with the DR in 1988. As of 2012, a proud 120 examples were still preserved worldwide, many of which were even operational. A team of renowned experts presents the development and use of the original type, its DR conversions, and the actual reconstruction program of the 52. Their deployment in individual railway depots, extensive statistical data, and an overview of preserved locomotives complete the work. The revised new edition leaves nothing to be desired.
