Product details

The author of the Letters to a Friend, Carl Reinecke (1824-1910), was a composer, pianist, and conductor. At the suggestion of Franz Liszt, Reinecke received an invitation from Hector Berlioz to Paris, where he performed as a pianist and reunited with Ferdinand Hiller, an acquaintance from his time in Leipzig, who had since become the director of the conservatory in Cologne, where Reinecke began working as a piano lecturer in 1851. There, he maintained a friendly relationship with Robert Schumann in nearby Düsseldorf and met the young Johannes Brahms. From 1854 to 1859, Reinecke was the conductor in Barmen. In 1859, he became music director in Breslau, where he organized subscription concerts for the first time. Later that same year, the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig offered him the position of conductor. Reinecke took on this role in 1860 and held it until 1895. In addition, he was active as an influential figure.
