Felix lives in an orderly world until he meets Finchen and then Maruschka, who paints vibrant pictures and sells them on the street. "I'm schizophrenic, need money for new colors," reads the sign. At times, she cannot be spoken to as she hears voices, the voices of her playmates who perished during a bombing raid in World War II. The children who know Maruschka find it completely normal that she becomes sad about this. Felix and Finchen believe that Maruschka would make a great grandmother for both of them.
