Maya the Bee is the main character of the novels "Maya the Bee and Her Adventures" and "Sky People" by the German author Waldemar Bonsels (1880-1952). In these books, Bonsels creatively processed his childhood experiences in the great outdoors around the Bredenbeker Pond in Ahrensburg before World War I. Stories of Maya and her friends were first published in book form in 1912. Since then, they have been translated into 41 languages.
