Product details

Apart from the Manns, no family has shaped culture in Germany as much as the Cassirers. Having achieved prosperity through trade and industry, they made significant contributions to art and philosophy, education and medicine, literature and theater, until they were forced into exile by Hitler. Sigrid Bauschinger tells the story of this uniquely talented family for the first time. Between Wrocław and Berlin, the Jewish Cassirers experienced a rapid economic and social rise at the end of the 19th century. With his wealth, Max Cassirer also enabled the founding of the Odenwaldschule - the reform pedagogical model boarding school was led by his daughter Edith and her husband until 1933. Based on rich archival material, Sigrid Bauschinger traces the far-reaching but closely connected family through their numerous paths. Along the way, we encounter, among others, Ph.
