1. Case and Problem Statement The Chinese community in Bucharest is a relatively unknown migrant group in Eastern Europe. It mainly consists of retailers who have come to Romania from various provinces of the People's Republic of China since 1989. Most of them live in the Bucharest district of Colentina, where there is a market area where many sell textiles produced in China. Other Chinese immigrants have been successful businesspeople in the city center or in the villa neighborhoods on the outskirts of Bucharest for more than ten years. Chinese migration to Europe is embedded in different contexts of social change and societal upheavals over the past 15 years. It was part of a larger migration movement from Asia to Europe in the 1990s. Its origins lie in political and economic factors.
