Abstract: Numerous publications have already been written about the book and film "All Quiet on the Western Front." The introduction addresses the content of both works as well as a biography of the author. Since there were many critical debates regarding Remarque's book and its film adaptation during the rise of German National Socialism at the turn of the 1920s to the 1930s, this paper examines the media coverage in Austria at that time. Using articles from three daily newspapers, the events in the First Republic are reconstructed, and the film's ban is interpreted in the context of the Weimar Republic and its issues.
