The Economy of Conventions (EC) is the first successfully established economic sociology paradigm that emerged in France from a collaboration between economists and sociologists. The EC has addressed conceptual issues in economic theory in innovative ways and is now being recognized internationally. It represents a prominent part of the new French social sciences today. At its core is a pragmatic action theory related to the concept of convention, which is used to analyze successful action coordination and collective quality construction. The EC can particularly be understood as an institutionalist approach that opens new perspectives on organization and market, as well as on cognition and economic rules. This volume systematizes the development of the EC and presents its various economic aspects.
