Encopresis is not a common symptom in childhood and adolescence. However, when it does occur, it is hard to overlook due to its prevalence, unlike other neurotic disorders. The encopretic child is almost always avoided by their surroundings, kept at a distance, and often ridiculed. The aspect of self-punishment is evident in this context. Aggressiveness is also directed outward, specifically towards the mother. A child with encopresis serves as a silent but unmistakable accusation to relatives, neighbors, and teachers. For both the child and their environment, the symptom, if persistent, becomes a significant burden. This often leads to open or covert conflicts and increasing psychosocial isolation. This condition has been little addressed in the scientific literature.
