Ulm 1524. Laila, the daughter of a bookbinder, has joined a group of musicians. In the marketplace, she is discovered by a wealthy woman from Ulm who bears a striking resemblance to her. Laila is asked to impersonate the woman at a dance event. Then, her doppelgänger commits suicide, and Laila is requested to continue playing the role to cover up the true circumstances.
