Product details

When the first train of the k.k. priv. Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Bahn departed in 1870, there wasn't even a train station building in Vienna. The later constructed terminal station marked the endpoint of the only railway line that had been built from the province to Vienna. Prince Johann Adolf II. of Schwarzenberg had it constructed. Soon, a lively travel traffic developed to the fashionable spa towns of Bohemia. The heyday of the railway coincided with the era when Bohemia was still part of Austria, as a well-known song states. At many points, branch lines diverged in all directions. The border changes after the two World Wars halted the expansion of the routes. Alfred Wolf, the former director of the Alsergrund district museum, who grew up near the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, contributed to the anniversary exhibition for the 100 years of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn as part of the organizing committee.
