Few Old Testament books have sparked such lively discussion in theological research regarding their understanding as the Book of Job. Despite these interpretative challenges, the interest of literature in the form and content of the Book of Job is evidenced by a multitude of titles in literary history. This study attempts to present the literary reception from the early 18th century onward and to illuminate and explain the sometimes significant deviations in this development. Not only classic authors like Goethe and Heine are in focus, but also peripheral writers, as well as testimonies from the visual arts, to which a detailed appendix is dedicated.
