In the district of Teltow-Fläming, located south of Berlin, there are still over forty former manor houses and estates. As part of the village ensemble, architectural highlights of a park, or reference points in the urban layout, they significantly contribute to the identity of the Mark Brandenburg landscape. Those buildings that have survived the test of time without extensive renovations remain striking witnesses to rural social, economic, and cultural history. However, even those that are only partially recognizable as manor houses are now experiencing a renewed appreciation. The ensembles were created when the villages were shaped by landlord-operated agriculture. With the land reform after 1945, these buildings lost their primary purpose of serving as the residence of a large landowner. New uses have led to significant material loss in some cases.
