Heinrich Heine's "Harzreise" (1826) has long been a literary classic and, despite that, is probably the most enjoyable and popular work of the great poet. In the autumn of 1824, he begins his journey in Göttingen, a city famous for its sausages and university, and wanders over several weeks from the Brocken up to the Ilsenstein. Passages of delightfully biting satire about the Who’s Who of his time alternate with often tender and poetic impressions of nature, making Heine's "Harzreise" a refreshing read even today.
