The distinctive feature of all honeybees compared to some similarly looking solitary bee species, such as the common silk bee, is the radial cell of the forewing. This cell is narrow and elongated, with almost parallel sides and only a slight curvature. The bees have strong wing muscles that are responsible for wing movements. The legs of honeybees are segmented like those of other insects. The hind legs of the worker bees play a significant role in pollen collection, as is the case with many other bee species, which is why the first tarsal segment is greatly widened. On its inner side, it has a dense covering of hair bristles, known as the "brush," which helps the bee to brush off any pollen that has stuck to its hairy body or other legs. Like all bees, the honeybee has lapping-sucking mouthparts.
