An appeal to humanity! A stranger is washed ashore on an island. Emaciated, displaced, homeless. The islanders fear him; he is different from them. Only the fisherman can prevent the others from sending the stranger back out to sea. Yet the residents treat him inhumanely, offer him no work, and he must survive on scraps. The fear of the stranger grows in their minds, and the newcomer becomes a threat. He must leave again. Ultimately, the enraged crowd places him back on his unseaworthy raft and pushes him back into the sea! A bitterly ironic parable about humanity's inability to accept the unfamiliar and practice compassion. Accompanied by the striking illustrations of Armin Greder, reminiscent of the expressive power of Edvard Munch and the satirical sharpness of Manfred Deix.
