The common assumption in Europe and North America today is that love and marriage go hand in hand. It is almost considered a tenet of faith that one should only marry the person they love. However, the relationship between the two is also discussed in other cultural and religious contexts. How is this relationship shaped in Islam, what role does love play, and what roles do feelings and ethical values have in the contemporary discourse on Islamic marriage? These are two questions that will be addressed in this work.
