Product details

With colorful, spectacular choreographies, oversized flags and banners, loud songs and cheers, led by a frontman equipped with a megaphone, the Ultras are a real eye-catcher and can be found in almost every fan curve of German football stadiums today. However, the Ultras represent not only a new generation of football fans but also a new youth culture. In public perception, Ultras are almost always equated with violent hooligans. Such generalization, however, does not do justice to the complexity of the Ultras. Marcus Sommerey analyzes the Ultras scene in his present study, examining its composition and its appeal to young people. He explores the question of what dangers currently arise from the Ultra movement. The author paints a detailed picture of the Ultras scene and provides insight into it.
