Sound journeys were developed in the last third of the 20th century as a means of deep self-exploration. Traveling with sounds – how could that work? It refers to the fact that music, sounds, and rhythms can lead to areas of the inner self, the unconscious, and trance processes. Inner images, deep relaxation, focus, and centering can be experienced in this context. The exploration of these possibilities has largely taken place in free, non-institutionally bound self-experience groups, alongside the growing interest in authentic, body-oriented percussive music during this time, where original, easy-to-play instruments from the hunter-gatherer era were rediscovered: gongs, singing bowls, frame drums, rattles, rainmakers, and so on. Gradually, the historically accurate connections became evident.
