When Julius Hey published his three-part work "German Singing Instruction" around 1900, he could hardly have imagined that this textbook would embark on an unprecedented triumph. Hey originally developed his teaching method solely for his group of students and as a pure singing instruction. It was only the responsibility towards the often faulty pronunciation of actors and singers that prompted him to add a "linguistic part" to his main work. The correctness of this teaching approach is evidenced by the fact that this very part, known as "The Little Hey," has become the standard work for voice training and has remained in high circulation to this day.
