Japan during the Edo period. In the Maruyama district of Nagasaki, a famous courtesan encounters a seriously ill man - the beginning of a romantic and dramatic love story set against the backdrop of a society that is both enchanting and confusing for the time. Kan Takahama draws on the title of the fifth act of a Kabuki play called "Keisei Yamato Zoushi" for her work about the life and love of a courtesan in historical Japan. She is inspired by the fate of two lovers who were not allowed to be together and met a tragic end, until they were reborn as butterflies and could float freely and happily over a field of flowers.
