The focus is on the side valleys of the larger river systems and the remote hinterland of Friuli, which has produced diverse cultural landscapes with villages of melancholic charm. Most routes traverse ancient cultivated land at the foothills of the alpine elevations. Therefore, these are not mountain tours, but almost exclusively ridge and valley hikes that can be tackled even by inexperienced hikers.
